PIC24FJ eXtreme Low-Power, 16-bit MCUs

Microchip's PIC24FJ 16-bit microcontroller features nanoWatt XLP for eXtreme low power consumption. The device includes advanced low-power features including a low-voltage sleep mode that maintains the device state and RAM with a typical current of 340 nA. Also included is a VBAT pin that automatically transitions the RTCC to a battery supply when VDD is removed.

The family also includes a 480 segment LCD driver with 60 segment x 8 common drive capability. The combination of features makes the part ideally suited to a number of battery powered and general purpose applications.

Features
  • Multiple power management options for extreme power reduction include:
    • VBAT that allows the device to transition to a back-up battery for the lowest power consumption with RTCC
    • Deep sleep to allow near total power-down, with the ability to wake-up on external triggers
    • Sleep and Idle modes, which selectively shut down peripherals and/or core for substantial power reduction and fast wake-up
    • Doze mode, which allows CPU to run at a lower clock speed than peripherals
  • Alternate clock modes allow on-the-fly switching to a lower clock speed for selective power reduction
  • Extreme low-power current consumption for deep sleep:
    • WDT: 270 nA @ 3.3 V (typ.)
    • RTCC: 400 nA @ 32 kHz, 3.3 V (typ.)
    • Deep sleep current, 40 nA, 3.3 V (typ.)
